I went to the movies last night with my two best girlfriends and no, we didn't see "Magic Mike" (not yet, anyway). No, we saw Wes Anderson's new movie "Moonrise Kingdom" and I loved it!
You can watch the trailer above if you are unfamiliar with the story (as I was before seeing it) but, essentially, it's a love story. The two kids start out as pen pals and eventually plan to run-away together, which, of course, doesn't go quite right, yet entirely more smoothly than one would expect.
In true Wes Anderson style, the movie has a certain off-color humor and all the characters have an eccentric charm to them a la "Royal Tenenbaums". Edward Norton was absolutely fantastic as the Khaki Scout Camp Counselor! Not only was he funny and heartwarming, he also totally rocked his khakis!
Speaking of clothing, I was completely in love with the main girl's style. All of her high socks and saddle shoes were just too fantastic! Seeing as I am totally addicted, here is a little collage of my interpretation of her outfit. I particularly love the wicker purse and the binoculars necklace. All too cute!
Finally, the movie just made me happy.
All of the beautiful scenery: woods and beaches, open meadows and airy rooms left me daydreaming of my own adventure all night. I imagined myself sitting on a windowseat, looking out into the ocean and enjoying the sound of rain falling on the roof and the faint sound of a record player playing from down the hall. Purely magical!
Plus, as you already know, I am just a sucker for young love so how could I possibly deny this movie?
It was quirky, cute, funny and I highly recommend it for a great two-hour getaway.
Have you seen any movies lately?
xoxoxo
